The Public Health Division inspects establishments that provide food for public consumption. These establishments include schools, daycare centers, nursing homes, hospitals, restaurants, delicatessens, grocery stores, temporary food stands, and special events.
Routine inspections are conducted to verify that these establishments comply with the Illinois Department of Public Health Food Service Sanitation Code. Inspections focus on conditions or practices that are likely to contribute to contamination of food items and possible food borne illness.
These items include but are not limited to:
Insect and rodent control
Personal hygiene practices
Source and condition of food received
Temperature control of potentially hazardous foods
