Citizens Police Academy

The purpose of the Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is to provide citizens with an enhanced understanding of the Elgin Police Department through education.

About the Program

In 2020 EPD University (EPD-U) was established as a new way to deliver the Citizens Police Academy information. This program provides an informative overview of the fundamentals of police operations and the various specialty units within the department for anyone 18 years of age and older. The format includes lecture-style presentations by EPD officers and staff, as well as some hands-on experiences. CPA is free. If you are interested in learning more about the Elgin police department, CPA is a great way to get started.  Click here to learn more and to register.

Spanish Citizens Police Academy

For our Spanish-speaking residents, the department provides the Citizens Police Academy training in Spanish. Classes will be announced for 2020 when the dates are finalized.

Senior Citizens Police Academy - registration open

For senior citizens who would like to learn more about the police department, the Senior Citizens Police Academy provides seniors who are at least 55 years of age with the opportunity to learn about the department’s Tactical Response Team, K-9 Unit, Drug and Gang Units, and much more.  The academy is free.  Elgin residents are first priority for acceptance; a criminal background check will be conducted for each applicant.
